People who live in the Guelph Street and Lancaster Street area of Kitchener are being advised to keep their windows closed after a fire at Earl’s Auto Parts this morning.

The shop is located at 956 Guelph St. and witness video from 11:30 a.m. shows thick back smoke over midtown.

By 11:47, Fire Chief Rob Martin said via Twitter that the flames were under control but that smoke could “migrate to lower levels” and suggested area residents keep their windows closed for the time being.

Fire services dispatched multiple fire trucks to the scene, but they were not able to confirm if the fire originated at Earl’s Auto Parts or a nearby property.

Fire trucks had been positioned behind Earl’s Auto Parts as well as the neighbouring JLS Autobody and Collision.
